The Frankenmuth United Methodist Preschool Program began in 1974.  The program is non-profit and licensed by the State of Michigan.  Our program offers a friendly Christian atmosphere designed to encourage and enhance children's spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.  Our program offers sessions for 3 and 4 year olds.  The 3-year old session meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 – 11:15 a.m.   The 4-year old session meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00–11:15 a.m.

Curriculum

Our program encourages children to explore new skills through interactive, cooperative play and group instruction.  We use a variety of learning styles to offer children opportunities for success in a positive, Christian atmosphere.  Highlights include:

• Bible stories, devotions, songs
• Literacy exploration
• Alphabet center
• Math/Science exploration
• Library corner
• Dramatic play center
• Block center
• Music and Movement
• Daily art exploration
• Sensory exploration
• Table activities; including puzzles, games and toys to develop small motor skills

• Show and tell
• Holiday and theme parties including Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day and Easter
• Christmas Program
• End of the year family picnic and special performance

Highlights of 3-Year Old Program

• A sampling of our wide variety of themes includes bible exploration, colors, shapes, numbers, and seasonal topics
• Children are encouraged to learn number recognition and counting
• Children are encouraged to learn name and letter recognition
• Children are encouraged to bring show and tell items having to do with the weekly theme
• Children go on field trips during the year including; Bronners at Christmas, the dentist and the fire station

Highlights of 4-Year Old Program

• A sampling of our wide variety of themes includes bible exploration, all about me, friends, jobs, health, and seasonal topics
• Children are encouraged to learn beginning reading and writing concepts
• Weekly alphabet exploration that includes a variety of letter and sound recognition activities
• Number exploration
• Children work on a memory book during the school year
• Children are encouraged to learn to write their first and last names by the end of the school year
• Field trips are taken to parents’ workplaces, plus Bronners, the dentist and the fire station
• End of the year graduation ceremony and celebration

9:00 - 10:15 am -- Free Play Time

10:15 - 10:30 am -- Large Group/Story Time

10:30 - 10:45 am -- Wash/Snack Time

10:45 - 11:00 am -- Small Group Time/Show & Tell

11:00 - 11:15 am -- Outside Play/Large Motor Development/Dancing

About Our Staff

Our preschool staff includes two highly qualified teachers. 

Karen Ostrofsky joined our staff in 2007 and is the program director.  She has a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and holds an elementary teaching certificate as well as an Early Childhood Endorsement from Saginaw Valley State University.  She previously substituted within the Frankenmuth School District.

Heide Ball is our former program director and has been with our program since 1985.  She has a degree in Early Childhood Education from Michigan State University. 

Parent Participation

The Frankenmuth United Methodist Preschool welcomes parents to participate in class sessions, but participation is not a requirement.  Parents are encouraged to spend the day with their child during their special person week, as well as attend special parties and events.  Parents are needed to help with transportation for all field trips.

Facility

The preschool uses two connecting rooms on the north end of the 2003 church addition.  One room is carpeted and the other has a tile floor.  Both rooms have their own restroom facilities.  Click here for photos of each room.

Tuition/Fees

The Frankenmuth United Methodist Preschool is a non-profit program.  Our tuition covers teacher salaries, all supplies, materials and daily snacks.

 For the 2008-2009 school year, the tuition is as follows:

 3-year olds 

$510 or 3 payments of $175

4-year olds 

$660 or 3 payments of $225

Priority enrollment for Frankenmuth United Methodist Church members begins in January for the following school year.  Open registration for non-church members begins in February for the following school year.

A non-refundable registration fee of $25 is required at the time of enrollment.
